This is an outstanding opportunity to join a progressive and thriving outpatient focused, independent, non-profit health care system with multisite ambulatory surgery centers, with 186 multispecialty independent physicians, and to lead the operations of a growing company that is strategically on the move with multiple diagnostic centers in the planning stage with the first scheduled to break ground in the near future. The main ASC site is one of the largest and busiest in the nation.
The Organization: MEDARVA Healthcare (formerly known as Richmond Eye & Ear Hospital) is a non-profit health care system that owns and operates two ASCs in partnership with physician owners. MEDARVA partners with community organizations to bring medical assistance and awareness to those in need. Stony Point Surgery Center has 10 operating rooms and is Virginia's pre-eminent outpatient surgical facility, providing a broad spectrum of routine and highly specialized healthcare services, in addition to offering vision and hearing care. The recently opened West Creek Surgery Center has an additional 6 operating rooms. MEDARVA’s physician network has 186 independent physicians and offers ownership opportunities in the surgery centers. Unique to MEDARVA, the surgery centers have residency teaching affiliations with the VCU Medical School. The MEDARVA Foundation supports numerous medical care and education programs in Richmond and central Virginia.
The Opportunity: Reporting to and partnering with the CEO, the COO will play a critical role as a leader in the direction, administration, and coordination of the internal operational activities for one of the largest ASCs in the U.S. This executive will be an entrepreneurial, innovative and nimble leader who will ensure that the organization has the proper operational controls, reporting procedures and people in place to effectively respond to the hyper growth activities of the organization. This executive will have strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model. The COO will also be responsible for the implementation and operation of the new CT/MRI Diagnostic Center.

The Candidate: The ideal candidate will possess at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in a senior operations leadership role, preferably in a multisite ambulatory and/or outpatient setting. Physician practice management or ambulatory experience is required. Hospital leadership experience is a plus, as is a clinical background. Some experience with value/risk-based contracting would be beneficial. He/she must possess an excellent track record in managing multisite locations. Current experience implementing infrastructure, IT and businesses processes to promote and support growth is important. A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s is highly preferred.
