Provides nursing care to patients at the Geisinger ASC. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned nursing staff.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
Works under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Supervisor and the Geisinger ASC Clinical Director.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
HEALTH INFORMATION DOCUMENTATION-Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods; ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form
CLINICAL POLICIES AND STANDARDS-Knowledge of and ability to use industry standards, policies and procedures relevant to function and organization.
PATIENT ASSESSMENT AND CARE-Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan.
HEALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE-Knowledge of the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations.
PATIENT RIGHTS-Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
PATIENT SAFETY-Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
CLINICAL NURSING SKILLS-Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to assure assessment, treatment or care is appropriate to the age of patients served (i.e. neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, geriatrics).
COMMUNICATION SKILLS-Demonstrates oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
COMPUTER SKILLS-Demonstrates basic navigation in a windows environment, and passwords and security. Accesses the internet, uses basic browser functionality, and understands policy on Internet usage. Demonstrates the ability to compose, send and read emails, understands email functionality and conventions related to replying.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from an approved school of nursing required.
Valid RN licensure from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or eligibility for licensure, required.
Basic computer skills preferred.
BLS certified required.
ACLS and PALS provider status acquisition within the first year of employment and maintenance of provider status thereafter required.
*Flex nurses working in pre/pacu areas are not required to maintain ACLS/PALS due to regular, full or part time staff being required to maintain certification. Flex nurses working in endoscopy will be required to maintain current ACLS certification.
Minimum one year experience in a preoperative or PACU area preferred.
Prior experience in medical/surgical nursing preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work performed in clinical environment-Universal Precautions.
Extensive periods of standing and walking are involved. Work is performed in a clean, well-ventilated, well-equipped environment with possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases or to bodily fluids which may contain infectious agents as well as anesthetics, radiation, and chemicals.
