CLINICAL NURSE II- DUKE CANCER CENTER CLINIC 5-1 HEMATOLOGY, GU

20 Duke Medicine Cir, Durham, NC 27710

Clinic Schedule : Must be able to work 4 days, M-F, 10 hours shifts, 7:30a-6:00p; occasional "late nurse" shift; day off will rotate based on staffing needs.

No nights, weekends, or holidays required!

Outpatient Hematology Oncology, Clinic 5-1

• Participate in multi-disciplinary team including pharmacists, medical assistants, physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrators to provide world class oncology care
• Answer patient advice requests via MyChart
• Assist providers in preparing patients for procedures such as lumbar punctures, skin biopsies, and bone marrow biopsies
• Perform blood draws and central line management (access/de-access ports, care of Hickman and PICC lines)
• See nurse only/lab and wait visits in clinic and act autonomously to address the patient's needs
• Provide education related to the disease process, side effects of medications, and adverse effects of treatments (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and anemia) upon assessment in conjunction with the primary care team
• Assist with ensuring proper scheduling of appointments and procedures (port placements, CT guided biopsies, etc.)
• Coordinate with Adult Bone Marrow Transplant to facilitate steps to transplant
• Order blood products per protocol and coordinate with treatment room for transfusion services

Outpatient Genitourinary Medical Oncology, Clinic 5-1

• Participate in multi-disciplinary team including pharmacists, medical assistants, physicians, advanced practice providers, and administrators to provide world class oncology care
• Answer patient advice requests via MyChart
• Perform occasional blood draws and central line management
• Provide education related to the disease process, side effects of medications, adverse effects of treatments (neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and anemia), and chemotherapy education
• See provider and nurse only visits in clinic and act autonomously to address the patient's needs upon assessment in conjunction with the primary care team
• Facilitate prior authorizations and arrange for prescription refills
• Administer hormone deprivation injections
• Assist with ensuring proper scheduling of appointments and procedures (port placements, CT guided biopsies, etc.)
• Process faxed information from outside facilities regarding patient care

Outpatient Genitourinary Surgical Oncology, Clinic 5-1

• Participate in multi-disciplinary team including pharmacists, medical assistants, physicians, and administrators to provide world class oncology care
• Answer patient advice requests via MyChart
• Assist providers with procedures such as cystoscopies and prostate biopsies
• See nurse only visits in clinic and act autonomously to address the patient's needs upon assessment
• Prepare procedural trays in sterile fashion
• Provide patients and family with pre-operative and pre-procedural instructions
• Provide education about specific GU disease processes and treatments
• Perform post-operative assessments

Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients Board of Nursing. in accordance with guidelines established within the Discipline of Nursing Clinical Ladder Program; participate in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects or other health related projects as assigned. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina

The Clinical Nurse III provides leadership at the unit level. The CNIII independently and creatively implements the nursing process for individual patients and identifies needs and plans care for unit patient populations. The CNIII is positive during changes and supports growth of peers. The CNIII is ableto effectively communicate with all members of the health care team.

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.

Requires two years of appropriate clinical experience. In addition to the education and experience noted above, applicants must meet all requirements set forth by the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program for the level III.

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
