Nursing Assistant - Day Surgery/Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

The Nursing Assistant performs a variety of basic patient care and Day Surgery/Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) support duties under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, charge nurse, and OR registered nurses. Duties Include: Assists nursing staff with patient transport to various areas within the hospital including ED, wards, critical care units, clinics, diagnostic and treatment areas and to their waiting car for discharge. Brings patients back from waiting area to the dressing area (explain what to remove)/assist them to the assigned stretcher. Make comfortable with warm blankets. Assists patient when surgery/procedure has been cancelled or when they are ready for discharge; get the family, disconnect IV, assist to dress, etc. Checks quality control (QC) on the glucometer and performs CBG as necessary. Restocks and maintains changing rooms. Wipes down surfaces, hangs clean gowns, sets out foot coverings and belonging bags. Assures drawers are stocked with bags and foot coverings. Keeps boxes of gloves available. Assists patients to the bathroom; answer call lights. Applies SCD's or TED hose on patients as necessary. Performs EKG's when needed. Assists in providing messenger type activities and other ancillary support activities for the OR Nursing Staff including: (a) delivering specimens to the labs; (b) delivering equipment/supplies to and from other departments; (c) delivery patient's belongings; (d) checking the blanket/fluid warmer and stocking as needed; (e) restocking linens and pillows; (f) locating the stretchers and bringing back to the OR/PACU area; (g)transporting the OR/PACU equipment to and from storage areas. Maintains environmental safety by organizing the areas and hallways to keep them clutter free. Assists in getting the area ready for the next day by restocking, organizing equipment and marking surgical beds. Wears personal protective equipment when interacting with patients. Complies with infection control polices and procedures. Complies with HIPAA and information security policies and procedures. Reports all incidents and or accidents to the supervisor immediately. Performs other direct and indirect patient care related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager and Charge Nurse. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in, and working knowledge of PACU area Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30 am - 4:00 pm / 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
