Directs the activities of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory Services. Administers plans, directs and evaluates the activities of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory to ensure quality patient care. Develops goals, policies and procedures; prepares and submits the operating and capital expenditure budgets for the cardiac cath lab. Participates in CQI and performance improvement activities. Clients served are predominately adults eighteen (18) year of age and older.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Duties
Shares responsibilities with the Medical Director in the areas of equipment, personnel, supplies, budget, space, infection control, safety, preventative maintenance, record keeping, federal, state and regulatory agency compliance and emergency preparedness.
Directs actions toward supervision of nursing care given to adult and geriatric patients within the Cardiac Cath Laboratory according to nursing principles.
Participates in administrative decision making; assists with establishing policies and procedures designed to ensure the provision and appropriateness of patient care.
Recommends and evaluates staffing plans to assure sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide patient care. Assures presence of RNs for all procedures and the recovery room.
Develops, implements and evaluated programs to promote recruitment, retention development and continuing education of nursing and technician staff.
Ensures quality and safety of Cardiac Cath Laboratory services through monitoring and evaluations, and verifies that appropriate action is taken based on findings of such evaluations.
Ensures a safe and sanitary environment for patients and personnel through review and evaluation of incident reports and identification of hazards and safety. Makes recommendations to Administration.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Ensures proper lighting, temperature and humidity levels are maintained to provide an optimal work environment.
Oversees the cleaning of instruments for reprocessing; oversees cleanliness of procedure rooms.
Ensures aseptic technique and standard precautions are followed at all times.
Works with the Medical Director on balancing the quality and cost effectiveness of Cardiac Cath Laboratory services.
Prepares annual budget including: labor, materials and supplies, services, equipment maintenance and procurement.
Participates in management meetings to keep the Administration informed of operations of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory, concerns, problems.
Conducts monthly staff meetings to review new policies and procedures, problems. Encourages staff to participate in problem solving.
Reviews the Cardiac Cath Laboratory's performance and institutes changes in procedures to improve patient care, assure compliance with regulatory agencies and promote more efficient operation of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory.
Develops standards of performance, determines areas of responsibility, assigns responsibility and accountability and delegates authority to managerial and professional members of the staff.
Participates in the hiring and termination of staff; implements organizational changes.
Demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory and management. Keeps informed of new developments in nursing and cardiovascular procedures.
Evaluates the need for new of different stock items in regard to new trends, new technology.
Meets with vendors to evaluate new products.
Ensures all radiology equipment is maintained and inspected annually.
Monitors staff radiation levels on a quarterly basis.
Gains commitment of subordinates to the lab's mission, values and goals. Translates this into operational guidelines that achieve patient/family, physician and staff satisfaction.
Qualifications:
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual education requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and JCAHO regulations.

Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing; Masters preferred or graduate of accredited radiology school.
Current Registered Nurse's License in the state of Texas or current Radiology Technologist License.
Current BCLS and ACLS certifications.Minimum of three years experience in Cath Lab supervision.
Minimum of five years experience in coronary care nursing and/or the Cardiac Cath Laboratory.Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent presentation skills
Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
Basic computer knowledge.
Proficient in interpreting EKGs and hemodynamic pressure tracings.
Operates Cardiac Cath Laboratory equipment: x-ray table, camera, video recorder, ultrasound machines, pressure injectors, etc.
