The role you’ll contribute:
The PACU RN provides professional nursing care for the post-operative patient during Recovery Room stay and during transfer of the patient to the appropriate unit.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Assesses the patient status upon arrival to the PACU by performing an initial assessment and ongoing assessments. These include but are not limited to: respiratory status, O2 saturation, vital signs, dressings, output from foley and drains, and analysis of heart rhythms.
Recognizes and identifies life threatening situations responding with immediate action according to PACU protocol.
Demonstrates knowledge of PACU monitors, equipment and supplies as evidenced through competencies and observation by Charge Nurse and Department Manager.
Administers medications competently in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.
Observes, documents and reports patients' responses to medications and nursing care as evidenced in PACU notes in the paper chart or the EMR.
Maintains control of narcotics by correctly using the process established in the department.
Adheres to patient charge system and documents in paper form or in the patient's EMR usage of supplies and equipment, procedures performed, care given, and medications administered.
Understands the Computerized Physician Order entry process and proficiently uses the electronic medical record for retrieval of patient information.
Monitors Electronic Medical Record for new physician orders and diagnostic results.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Currently licensed to practice as an RN in the state of Texas.
One to two years nursing experience with surgical patients.
