The Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Full-time Registered Nurse (RN). The Registered Nurse will function in the Gastroenterology Section within Medicine Service. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Preferred Experience: Gastroenterology Experience Gastroenterology Advanced Procedures BSN Bronchoscopy Experience Physical Requirements: Applicant must possess the ability to do the following: heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over; pulling, pushing and reaching above the shoulder; potentially long periods of walking, standing, kneeling and repeated bending. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. ["Assess plans, implements, and evaluates coordination of the patient's care with all interdisciplinary teams. Performing and documenting (or reviewing) required complete nursing assessment of each patient prior to the procedure to determine patient's baseline level of health and any special consideration specific to that patient undergoing a minimally invasive procedure and/or moderate sedation, anesthesia. Assists in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures; performs and documents continuous patient assessment during and after procedure, noting patient's tolerance of the procedure, course of recovery and status at time of discharge. Maintains patient safety and comfort by keeping physicians informed of patient's status and performing standard nursing interventions. Educate Veteran about their general care, side effects and recovery process. Responsive to patient and family self-care patient education needs. Provides home care instruction. Promotes family significant/other involvement. Provides technical assistance as assigned by physicians and within RN scope of practice in both endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures. Performs designated non-endoscopic diagnostic procedures with minimal or no supervision to include but not limited to breath test and capsule endoscopy. Processes diagnostic specimens obtained during endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures, accurately completes or verifies necessary documentation and forms and assures delivery to appropriate testing area per hospital policy. Evaluates and documents effectiveness of patient care in all phases of the perioperative endoscopy experience. Assessment by the GI Registered Nurse is essential to formulate a nursing diagnosis, create a plan of care, and make sound clinical judgments. Appropriate elements of data collection may be delegated to other members of the health care team. Completely and accurately, documents pertinent findings and care/services rendered to and/or offered to patients per VHA Policy and Procedure. Participates as a member or consultant on medical center committees and/or task forces as requested and approved or assigned. Assists in developing, evaluating and communicating standards of nursing practice as supported by guiding authoritative associations and clinical best practice.
