Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will function both as an independent healthcare provider and part of care team while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary pain service. As a member of the care team, they are responsible for providing pain management care (acute and chronic pain) for pediatric patients in an inpatient and ambulatory clinical setting. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with pain, including acute postoperative/traumatic pain, chronic non-cancer and cancer related pain conditions. He/she provides evaluation and management to patients referred to the Pediatric Inpatient Pain Services and Pediatric Pain Clinic. The Pediatric Inpatient Pain Service provides consultation and the development of a comprehensive pain management plans for patients with complex pain and is actively involved in perioperative analgesia for pediatric patients. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant develops criteria for and participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of care. Based on current evidence, this practitioner is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating standards of care and/or protocols that result in changes to improve patient care, practice and/or systems. He/she plans and participates in learning opportunities for nursing, medical assistant, and medical students.
This position works in collaboration with the attending physicians and works within their scope of practice to provide excellent clinical care for patients. Plays a critical role in the patient family medical team. Professional who may practice in hospital’s inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
Education
Master's or Doctorate degree from an Accreditation Commission for Nursing (ACEN) and/or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited graduate school of nursing in Pediatric Acute care, Pediatric primary care or Family Medicine OR Master's degree from nationally accredited ARC-PA program. (Required)
Certifications
Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association or obtained by start date. (Required)
Current State of Arizona certification as a Nurse Practitioner OR Current State of Arizona certification as a Physician Assistant or obtained by start date. (Required)
National board certification to match area of education OR maintain certificate in National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). (Required)
