Responsible for assisting in interviewing, hiring and firing of staff for the department/clinic.
Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational goals and objectives.
Provides for professional growth and development of patient care staff through identification of needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging education (formal and continuing) efforts and evaluation of same.
Assists in completion of regular performance evaluations for each staff member; conducts evaluations for new staff prior to completion of probationary period.
Counsels employees, develops staff and, as appropriate, utilizes the disciplinary process.
Monitors patient and provider scheduling. Ensure adequate and appropriate staff mix within the department.
Responsible for safety and comfort of patients, and the health and safety of staff.
Maintains an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Collaborates with ancillary support services to provide a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Responsible for resolving patient complaints.
Works with the Business Department to coordinate and direct the patient accounting functions in order to consistently produce accurate bills which are paid in a timely manner.
Assists to develop, justify and maintain a fiscal plan (budget) for the department. Assists the business office to monitor patient revenues, expenses and operating expenses (salaries and capital expense items) and provide appropriate reports to Administration.
Monitors utilization of equipment and supplies; orders supplies as needed.
Effectively maintains all required records for the department; demonstrates good organizational skills.
Plans and conducts staff meetings.
Works with the medical staff to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
Participates in performance improvement, including utilization and promotion of familiarization with performance improvement standards and programs.
Assumes the role of patient advocate respecting guidelines found in the Patient Bill of Rights.
Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs; attends meetings, workshops to enrich personal knowledge, growth and management skills.
Serves as a resource to others.

Fosters good public relations for the department/clinic.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.

Ability to perform waived testing (point of care testing) per Clinical Laboratory's and the department's policies and procedures.

Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Maintains performance improvement activities for department.
