Perioperative RNs use the nursing process to develop individualized plans of care and to coordinate and deliver care to patients undergoing operative or other invasive procedures. Perioperative RNs identify patient needs, set goals with patients, and implement nursing interventions and activities to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Perioperative RNs address the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual responses of patients by using standards, knowledge, judgment, and skills based on scientific principles. Perioperative RNs are ethical, responsible, and accountable for quality patient care and use evidence as the foundation for practice. Perioperative RNs assume responsibility for lifelong learning.
