Summary: Under the supervision/direction of a registered nurse, performs various duties assisting staff nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established nursing standards, medical center policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infection control standards. These duties include nursing assistant, unit secretary, phlebotomy and EKG.
Other information: One year experience preferred as a Unit administrative, Nursing Assistant, or Phlebotomist.
Responsibilities: Assists with preparation of patient rooms and bays for receiving surgical patients. Assists with patient personal care--changing of bed linens, dressing and undressing, and other general care of surgical patients. Under the direction of the Perioperative RN, accomplishes and records vital signs, weight, height, and intake/output measurements. Reports abnormal findings immediately. Assists with Pre and Post-Operative care such as lifting and turning patients (utilizes proper body mechanics), applying/utilizing specialty equipment as needed, and assisting with patient ambulation as directed. Transports patients to other hospital areas for treatments and other diagnostic tests as per established safety guidelines. Performs procedures such as patient positioning and safety needs for patient stretcher, electrode application, use of Tympanic thermometer, etc. Demonstrates knowledge and usage of the non-invasive monitor and portable O2 process. Conscious of biohazard safety as it relates to the job changing of gloves between patients Perform and report point-of-care monitor glucoses on all patient types. Perform and report point-of-care urine pregnancy results on appropriate patient types.
