Under the supervision of an RN, assists in the delivery of age specific patient care, assists patients with activities of daily living, and provides basic nursing care. Maintains a safe and clean environment and promotes the efficiency of the nursing team. Supports direct patient care activities by performing clerical and receptionist functions and communicates with all persons involved in unit operations. Is actively involved in the therapeutic milieu and treatment planning. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership. Assists in the preparation of the operating room to receive the surgical patient. Ensure appropriate instrumentation is present. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon before and during the surgical procedure. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Receives report on patients and completes patient care assignments within the time frame designated by the RN. Duties include:
a. Observing, reporting, and recording patient behaviors and interactive dynamics.
b. Obtaining vital signs.
c. Assisting with delivery of physical care and hygiene as needed.
d. Interacting therapeutically with patients.
e. Actively participating in the therapeutic milieu.
Is observant of patients' condition and communicates observations to the RN or team leader.
Assumes specific responsibilities of a scrub technologist, but may act in the capacity of a runner during the case. Ensures and promotes quality age specific patient care as defined in unit-based scope of service.
In the pre-operative phase prepares the operating room to receive patient, ensures patient, room, equipment, and supply readiness.
In the intra-operative phase assists surgeon in scrub capacity according to standards and within their designated scope of practice and anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
In the post-operative phase assists in the decontamination of the operating room, turnover and decontamination of the instrumentation.
Strictly adheres to asceptic technique.
Functions cooperatively as a team member, contributing to quality improvement processes and cost control measures.
May serve as a transport person as needed.

After delivering IV solutions to the correct area they are to read the label on the box then on the shelf to ensure appropriate storage

Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or a minimum of two years acute care experience.
Successful completion of Nursing Assistant training program.
Surgical Technologist Certification preferred.
Meets requirements to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Maryland.
Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
