Phoenix Children’s is seeking a talented, energetic, and team-oriented Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to join the Division of Anesthesia.
Job Duties:
Perform and document the pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation of the patient.
Review, request, and order laboratory/diagnostic studies.
Obtain informed consent for anesthesia and related services.
Select, obtain, order, and administer preanesthetic medication or treatment.
Develop an anesthesia care plan with coordination from Anesthesiologist.
Perform and document the post-anesthesia assessment and evaluation of the patient.
Document accurately on the pre- and post- anesthesia record.
Reports any anesthesia complications via proper reporting structures and obtains consultations and follow-up for patient safety.
Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by evaluating patient response, and selecting, ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilator support to maintain patient stability during transfer.
Initiate and administer post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system.
Initiate and administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post anesthesia period.
Evaluate the patient’s response to anesthesia and surgery; take appropriate corrective action during the post anesthesia period.
Provide post anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care.
Implement consultation with acute pain management when needed.
Manage emergency situations by assessing, stabilizing, and determining disposition of patients, including providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs and fluids, and using basic and advanced cardiac life support techniques.
Provides expert clinical care, education, consultation, advocacy, research, leadership and mentorship.
Promotes the advancement of the nursing profession at Phoenix Children’s and the community-at-large. This may include publication, participation in professional organizations and providing educational support to the nursing staff.
Collaborates and coordinates care with medical team to deliver evidenced-based care and establish best practices in clinical care.
Conducts and participates in research.
Meets the medical staff's allied health practitioners' core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice.
Participates in the education of anesthesia trainees and airway learners from other departments.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioner experience, preferably with an OR or Pre-op/PACU background.
Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association or obtained by start date.
Current State of Arizona certification as a Nurse Practitioner or obtained by start date.
National board certification to match area of education.
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an Accreditation Commission for Nursing (ACEN) and/or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited graduate school of nursing in Pediatric Acute care, Pediatric primary care or Family Medicine.
