The Infusion Registered Nurse, in the Infusion Center, serves as a professional caregiver and is responsible for the nursing management of patients being infused with biologic therapy agents, fluids and/or other medications. Provides direct patient care, consults with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Follows clinical standards and is involved with education activities. Acts as liaison between patient/physician and other departments. The RN prepares and administers biologic IV therapy treatments requiring advanced nursing knowledge and competency, places peripheral vascular lines and performs phlebotomy. Responsible for appropriate utilization of resources and optimum quality of devices for positive patient outcomes. This individual also works to develop, interpret, implement and document a plan of care for each patient.
Primary Responsibilities:
Complete daily electronic forms for each assigned patient within a secured Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System
Complete review of protocols, package inserts, reference materials, proper mixing protocols and clearance questions with patient prior to infusion treatment
Administer ongoing care/infusions for each patient, provide necessary follow-up as directed by protocols, Physician or Clinical Manager
Provide direct care, management, evaluation and teaching of the patient in accordance with physician based on ongoing assessments and as required by policy/regulation
Assess, evaluate, and respond to the infusing patient including infusion reactions
Upon completion of infusion and post observation, assess and document pt response and treatments given, vital signs, and patient education prior to patient discharge
Ability to travel to 6 locations across the front range as needed to support infusion treatments
Follow safety standards including proper handling of hazardous drugs
Participate in departmental quality improvement programs
Coordinate nursing and patient care activities within the department and with other clinical departments utilizing principles of teamwork to provide efficient comprehensive & cost-effective patient care. This includes working with medical assistants, referrals department, and scheduling staff in a team-based approach to ensure appropriate patient bookings, appointment triage, and overall patient experience
Demonstrates ability to carry out skills for clinical areas worked including administration of prescribed medications & treatments in accordance with nursing standards and clinic policy including:
Telephone triage/consultation with patients
High tech. nursing procedures in the ambulatory care setting
Patient/Family education
Knowledge of all medications, contraindications, and potential side effects prior to infusion
Safe preparation of infusion mixing, setup, and administration processes
Orient patient and family to biologics and infusion process
Provide psychosocial support to patient and family and refers to other resources when patient’s situation indicates

Required Qualifications:
Active and unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Colorado
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification
2+ years of experience working as an RN in a clinical care setting that contributes to proficiency in infusion therapy (such as medical surgical unit, emergency department, intensive care unit, post-anesthesia care unit, or similar setting)
Proficient with electronic medical records documentation
Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team of professionals including; medical assistants, pharmacists and technicians, physicians and other licensed prescribers, and others as needed to provide comprehensive care and support
Access to reliable transportation that will enable travel to other clinic sites as needed
Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR) programs
Knowledge of the Infusion Nursing Society (INS) standards of practice, policies and procedures
Knowledgeable of HIPAA patient privacy and data security requirements, OSHA employee protection regulations, and accreditation standards for home health and home infusion pharmacy (or other relevant accrediting organizations)
Colorado Residents Only:The hourly range for this role is $28.03 to $54.95 per hour.
